Clinical Experience Block 5

The PCL Clinical Experience includes: Telemedicine Patient Experience Session, Clinical Procedures Session, and Ultrasound Session. 

BLOCK 5 OBJECTIVES AND ASSESSMENTS

Schedule of the Day

12:50 - 1:00PM

ZOOM ORIENTATION

1:00 - 2:30PM

Telemedicine Encounters (1:00 or 1:25 start) 

  • The interviewer will be conducting the encounter while the scribe observes
  • Complete the SOAP Presentation Debrief Qualtrics form with a faculty member during your debrief session

Clinical Procedures (2 groups will go at a time) 

  • Practice interpreting and troubleshooting EKGs
  • Do not begin ultrasound portion until completing the telemedicine debrief and the EKG case. You may work on your patient notes while waiting.

2:45 - 4:00PM

Cardiac Ultrasound

  • Cardiac and Lung Ultrasound
  • M1s will obtain required cardiac and lung images with their partners.

Telemedicine Patient Encounter

· REFRESH

  • Review Medical Student Note Writing
  • Review all EMR videos under EMR Videos under FAQ on website
  • Review PCL Note Template with additions specific for primary care and chronic conditions and Example Note that follows this template
  • Review Telehealth Exam

· PREWORK

  • Review your patient’s medical history and prepare for your telehealth visit
  •  ‘Follow up visit without complaint’ Chronic issue interview/documentation
    approach
  • Cardiopulm telemedicine exam Old Dominion University
  • Histories (EMR Training - recommend specifically updating social history (smoking, exercise,....) 
  • Complete the Tour of Motivational Interviewing Course: https://healtheknowledge.org/course/index.php?categoryid=53
    • The whole 4 hour course must be completed before you return for your Block 5 session. Should have done 1/2 of it prior to Block 4.

· POSTWORK

  • Complete your patient's note by 5:00 PM the day after your patient encounter and sign/submit your note to Clinical Experience Preceptor for signature and PCL preceptor as a reviewer. If have SP encounter, send note to PCL preceptor in email for feedback.
  • Once your note is sent to your Clinical Experience Preceptor, fill out Staff Documentation Qualtrics Survey to receive documentation feedback. 
  • Complete the Class of 2027 PCL Clinical Experience Post-Visit Survey 
  • If any of the above is not completed on time you will lose professionalism points.

  • Follow up CBL Case Synopsis (Your team will see this patient during your procedure time)

· POSTWORK (watch prior to completing your post-work quiz)
