Clinical Experience Block 4 

The PCL Clinical Experience includes: Telemedicine Patient Experience Session, Clinical Procedures Session, and Ultrasound Session.

1:00 - 3:00PM

Telemedicine Encounters (1:00 or 2:00 start) 

  • The interviewer will be conducting the encounter while the scribe observes
  • Complete the SOAP Presentation Debrief Qualtrics form with a faculty member during your debrief session

 Clinical Procedures (1:00 or 2:00 start) 

  • Students will be practicing obtaining IV and IO access on task trainers.

3:00 - 4:30PM

Cardiac Ultrasound

  • Open Zoom link
  • M1s will obtain required cardiac and IVC images with their partners
  • Have US debrief up while obtaining images to receive feedback from staff
  • Recommend saving all images, but you MUST save IVC longitudinal view to upload into D2L post quiz

Telemedicine Patient Encounter

REFRESH

  • Review PCL Note Template with additions specific for primary care and chronic conditions and Example Note that follows this template 

PREWORK

  • Review last 3 minutes of Medical Student Note Writing (signing and forwarding the note)
  • Review your patient's medical history and prepare for your telehealth visit. Also develop a plan for an encounter with a patient when you are unable to review chart information.
  • Review the SP patient information in the case your patient does not show.
  • Watch basic telemedicine exam and documentation 
  • Watch the Principles of Motivational Interviewing and Core Skills 

POSTWORK

  • Recorders must complete your patient's note by 5:00 PM the day after your patient encounter and sign/submit your note to Clinical Experience Preceptor and partner in a {secure} email. If this is not completed on time, you will lose professionalism points.
  • Once your note is sent to your Clinical Experience Preceptor, fill out Staff Documentation Qualtrics Survey to receive documentation feedback.
  • Complete the Class of 2028 PCL Clinical Experience Post-Visit Survey. 
  • If any of the above is not completed on time you will lose professionalism points.

PREWORK

  • Students will be scanning the cardiac and IVC views on their PCE partner/colleague. This involves placing the ultrasound probe on the chest wall.  Please make sure you review the images required prior to your PCE day and complete the attestation to serve as a student ultrasound volunteer in your pre-quiz.
