The Ultrasound Fellowship Program at the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University
is a fully accredited EUFAC Ultrasound fellowship. Fellows develop hands-on ultrasound
skills, and they learn how to handle the administrative duties that are involved with
running a clinical ultrasound program.
Fellowship opportunities are available for board eligible graduates in Emergency Medicine,
Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, and Pediatrics.
Fellows have both clinical and teaching responsibilities in their department. Upon
completion of the program, the fellow will be able to obtain RDMS certification, be
eligible to sit for the advanced EM ultrasonography FPD, be able to competently run
a clinical ultrasound program, and be able to instruct other physicians in ultrasound
techniques.
Ultrasound fellows will follow the SCUF/EUFAC guidelines for clinical duties and education
that include:
Functioning as an attending physician with a 0.5 FTE
Completing 5 dedicated ultrasound scanning shifts with credentialed faculty per month
Attending monthly ultrasound meetings
Attending monthly tape review meetings
Participating in resident ultrasound lectures throughout the year
Participating in a research project
Attending the 2-day ultrasound course for residents and medical students held each
July
Additional fellowship opportunities include:
Teaching ultrasound courses to EMTs, paramedics, and nurses
Involvement in the medical student ultrasound elective
Participating as part of medical coverage for major sporting events
Potential opportunities for participating in international ultrasound projects
Eligible to sit for ABEM advanced EM ultrasonography FPD if ABEM eligible
Fellows receive a generous compensation package, including a competitive salary, CME,
paid vacation (4 weeks), Mac laptop computer for use during the fellowship, two ultrasound
texts, full benefits, and a dedicated Lumify ultrasound system for use throughout
the fellowship.
