Chemical Safety

TheChemical Safety Office (CSO)is committed to providing a safe laboratory environment for faculty, staff, students, and visitors. Our goal is to minimize the risk of injury or illness to laboratory workers by ensuring that they have the training, information, support, and equipment needed to work safely in the laboratory.

We work closely with outside agencies, including the Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) and the Augusta/Richmond County Fire Department (for emergency response operations involving chemical-relatedfires or spills that require level A support). We liaison withGeorgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD)andFederal Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)during institutional and laboratory inspections for regulatory compliance. In addition, weproduce and provide all reports and documentation as required underEPD/EPA, theGeorgia Department of Transportation (DOT)Hazardous Materials Division, and theBoard of Regent's of the University System of Georgia's Environmental Health & Safety Office.
