Emergency Medicine Residency Program

Why Choose MCG?

Nicholas Musisca

Nick Musisca,    MD FACEP

Emergency Medicine Program Director

Hello & welcome to the Medical College Emergency Medicine Residency.

As an introduction, our program has been in existence for over 30 years. We are a three-year program comprising 14 residents per class. We have a mixture of military and civilian residents, and our graduates have diverse interests to include both academic and community practice, fellowships, and work in austere and rural environments both globally and domestically.

Our catchment area serves a large geographic portion of Georgia and South Carolina consisting of urban, suburban and rural patients. We are the biggest referral center in the region for adult and pediatric trauma and critical care.  As such, our trainees work in a high volume, high acuity system that prepares them well for any practice environment they so choose upon graduation.

As to who I am, I grew up in North Carolina where I went to both Undergraduate and Medical School at Wake Forest University. I went to a four-year program at Washington University in St. Louis, followed by serving as Assistant Program Director for several years at Brown Emergency Medicine. I have since joined the faculty at the Medical College of Georgia for the primary purpose of preparing and advancing our resident trainees to practicing in any environment they choose. I am married to my wife who is a Pediatric Emergency Physician, have two daughters (7 & 4) as well as two dogs. In what little spare time I have, I enjoy hiking, rock climbing, making fresh coffee, and streaming new TV series while also seeking out old classic movies.
