About ASB

AU’s Institutional Access, Success, & Belonging (ASB) aims to provide strategic direction and guidance to the university community's commitment to Excellence.

Purpose: ASB helps units campus-wide foster practices that optimize the contributions of groups and individuals by supporting the engagement and development of all faculty, staff, students and patients.

Mission: AU’s Institutional Access, Success, & Belonging (ASB) aims to provide strategic direction and guidance to the university community. In addition, ASB strives to provide institutional leadership focused on enhancing and maintaining belonging and success in learning, teaching, research and service at the Augusta University. 

Vision Statement: ASB will build, align and coordinate efforts as a strategic approach that contributes to organizational goals and business performance. In addition, ASB aspires to create a campus climate that affirms an array of experiences, fosters value and respect of all community members, and celebrates unity.

Dr. Garrett Green is the Associate Vice President of Access, Success and Belonging, and an adjunct professor in the College of Education & Human Development at Augusta University. In his role, Dr. Green works closely with university leadership in developing strategies to build and preserve a campus culture that promotes the university values of compassion, collegiality, excellence, integrity, inclusivity, and leadership. Dr. Green received his Doctorate in Education from Augusta University. He has served as a Co-Champion for Belonging for our university strategic plan, "Creating a Legacy Like No Other.” He also has helped lead the institution’s African American Male Initiative Program (AAMI) and launched the Multicultural Mentorship Program (MMP). He previously served as the Director of the Office of Multicultural Student Engagement (MSE) in the Division of Enrollment Management and Student Affairs. As a practitioner and scholar, he has worked for more than a decade to ensure that all individuals have opportunities for success and connection within our community.

Kristie R.  Johnson is the Director of Access, Success, and Belonging and an adjunct professor in the English and World Languages department at Augusta University. A lifelong resident of the Augusta area, she holds a Master of Public Administration degree from Augusta University and a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from Georgia College and State University. Johnson is an award-winning essayist and memoirist whose work centers marginalized experiences, and advocates for social change. In her role as Director of ASB, Johnson manages and develops initiatives designed to create pathways for potential students and foster a sense of belonging among the campus community.

Angela Stewart Young is a Program Manager with the Office of Access, Success, and Belonging. A Charleston, South Carolina native, Angela's BA in Economics & Spanish were earned at Converse University in Spartanburg prior to additional language study and certification at the University of Malaga in Spain. With a broad professional background most recently focused on creating excellent, informative guest experiences on behalf of the Office of Admissions, her commitment to supporting Augusta University's continued growth and the breadth of perspectives welcomed and celebrated in this campus community are central to her work with the ASB team.

Za'Cuan McNeil is the Learning and Development Coordinator for Institutional Access, Success and a Belonging. He is a native of Florence, SC, and recently relocated to Augusta, GA after graduating in 2022. Za’Cuan holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mass Communications from Claflin University, located in Orangeburg, SC. He is a former k-12 educator for Richmond County School System, where he also served on the planning committee for multicultural events and awareness. Za’Cuan has dedicated the last 6 years to advocating for marginalized groups and ensuring they feel a sense of belonging. As the Learning and development Coordinator, he is responsible for fostering professional development that focuses on Access, Success, and Belonging for the faculty/staff and students of Augusta University.

Jashawn Boles is the Administrative Assistant for the Institutional Access, Success, & Belonging (IASB). Jashawn is from Oxford, Mississippi and has been a resident of Augusta, Georgia since 2019. He currently attends Savannah State University where he majors in Business Management with a minor in Urban Planning & Development. Prior to joining Augusta University, Jashawn worked with the City of Augusta as an Executive Assistant for the Housing and Community Development Department. As the Administrative Assistant, Jashawn will work to provide support to the ASB staff as we provide support to the faculty, staff, and students on campus. He looks forward to working alongside the ASB team to provide support and resources for the faculty and staff.

Although she was born in Detroit, Michigan, Alicia Frontera was raised in Augusta, GA. She recently graduated from Augusta University with her Bachelor of Social Work degree and is currently pursuing a Master of Public Administration at AU. During undergrad, she interned for the ASB office and gained experience providing support for the many initiatives aimed at cultivating a welcoming environment on campus. As a Graduate Assistant, she strives to help create and enhance ASB pathway opportunities for potential AU students while helping to strengthen community partnerships.

Andrew Cole is the undergraduate intern in the Office of Access, Success, and Belonging. A junior originally from Kennesaw, GA, he is a Middle Grades Education major and a member of the Augusta University Men’s Cross Country and Track & Field teams. Andrew brings his passion for inclusivity and belonging initiatives to the ASB team. After college, he plans to teach math and/or social studies and coach cross country.
