COL (ret) John G. McManus retired in 2012 from the United States Army with a combined Federal service record of over 24 years as a Medical Corps Officer and decorated combat veteran. After graduating from North Georgia Senior Military College in 1988 with a B.S. in chemistry on a full National Guard Scholarship, Dr. McManus attended his M.D. training at the Medical College of Georgia, (Augusta University) serving as student government president his final year in 1992. He then completed a 4-year emergency medicine residency in 1999 at Madigan Army Medical Center and University of Washington, an EMS fellowship at Oregon Health and Sciences University and a Master Degree in Clinical Research. Furthermore, he received his MBA in July 2012 from Brenau University. Dr. McManus served on active duty in numerous leadership assignments and deployments (Bosnia, Kuwait, Iraq) throughout the world. He had the honor to serve as the Chief Medical Officer of the last Combat Support Hospital (47th CSH) in Baghdad Iraq in 2011. His other prior leadership assignments include: Director for the U.S. Army’s EMS Department and also the Director for the Center of Pre-deployment Medicine, at the U.S. Army Medical Department Center and School, Fort Sam Houston, Texas (equivalent to Associate Deans). Dr. McManus also founded and served as the inaugural program director for three EMS fellowship programs: the U.S. Army's first emergency medicine subspecialty fellowship, at the San Antonio Military Medical Center (2007-11), the University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio (2010-11) and at Augusta University (2013-20). He also currently serves as a professor in the EMS Fellowship for the Department of emergency medicine at Augusta University and the Region 6 EMS Medical Director. Dr. McManus serves as medical director for Southstar EMS and Georgia Bureau of Investigation. He served as the past- speaker for the national emergency medical society ACEP (American College of Emergency Physicians).

COL (ret) McManus is a physician executive that possesses extensive and progressively responsible experience that provided clinical leadership and medical management in both the Department of Defense and civilian medical community. He possesses a thorough understanding of academic and research development practices, clinical training as well as deployment logistics for medical devices and products. His research focus included trauma and combat casualty care research at the U.S. Army Institute of Surgical Research and in Iraq and Afghanistan focusing on hypoperfusion physiology, active shooter, pre-hospital, disaster and critical care medicine. He is an internationally recognized researcher and speaker with over 500 presentations and accomplished author of over 100 (50 peer) scientific publications to include editor of 5 medical textbooks. He has developed medical educational experiences for 1000’s of medical personnel for the military and ACGME. Just a few of his numerous awards include: the Legion of Merit, the National Emergency Medicine teaching award and the outstanding Army Medical Department LTC of the year by the U.S. Army Surgeon General in 2006.
