The Augusta University Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Systems Engineering is the only one of its kind in Georgia, providing students with the skills to succeed in healthcare, education, and public or private sector careers.

The Biomedical Systems Engineering (BMSE) program concentrates on biomedical and health informatics systems dedicated to the people, processes, and organizations in the healthcare field. The BSME program educates students in cutting-edge technologies using systems engineering with a cybersecurity focus in a healthcare setting.

Program-Level Learning Outcomes:

Students who graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Systems Engineering will be able to:

  1. Identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems by applying engineering, science, and mathematics principles.
  2. Apply engineering design to produce solutions that meet specified needs with consideration of public health, safety, and welfare, as well as global, cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors.
  3. Communicate effectively with a range of audiences about technical information.
  4. Recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering situations and make informed judgments, which must consider the impact of engineering solutions in global, economic, environmental, and societal contexts.
  5. Function effectively on a team whose members provide leadership, create a collaborative and inclusive environment, establish goals, plan tasks, and meet objectives.
  6. Develop and conduct appropriate experimentation, analyze and interpret data, and use engineering judgment to conclude.
  7. Apply principles of engineering, biology, human physiology, chemistry, calculus-based physics, mathematics (through differential equations), and statistics.
  8. Solve bio/biomedical engineering problems associated with interacting with living and non-living systems.
  9. Make measurements on and interpret data from living systems.
